It’s the end of an era on “Succession.” In a shocking turn of events, family patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox) died while on a flight to Stockholm in the third episode of Season 4. The episode, titled “Connor’s Wedding,” begins with the Roy siblings, Greg, Gerri and Hugo boarding a boat to Liberty Island for Willa and Connor’s nuptials. Tom, Kerry, Karolina, Frank and Karl accompany Logan on his jet as he travels to a meeting with Lukas Mattson regarding the now-uncertain GoJo acquisition. As Logan boards his jet, he informs Roman (Kieran Culkin) that he won’t be attending the event, and instructs him to fire Gerri (J. Smith-Cameron).

ABBA guitarist Lasse Wellander has died at 70 years old, the musician's family announced. The Sweden native died on Friday, April 7 after a battle with cancer. Taking to Wellander's official Facebook page, his family wrote, «It is with indescribable sadness that we have to announce that our beloved Lasse has fallen asleep.

Annika Pham L.A.-based Dynamic Television has acquired worldwide rights to the Swedish series “The Pirate Bay,” about the notorious pirate BitTorrent site and its co-founders Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, and Gottfrid Swartholm. The six-part series, set to go unto production this fall, is being produced by Stockholm and L.A.-based powerhouse B-Reel Films (“Midsommar,” “Before We Die”) for Swedish pubcaster SVT. “I Am Zlatan” helmer Jens Sjögren is directing, from a screenplay by head-writer Piotr Marciniak (“Everything I Can’t Remember”), with Patrik Gyllström (“Agatha Christie’s Hjerson”) serving as episodic writer. The character-driven show turns on Peter, Fredrik and Gottfrid, who ended up creating in 2003 one of the world’s largest BitTorrent indexes as a reaction to big business trying to take control file sharing over the Internet. 

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief The Far East Film Festival in Italy’s Udine will open with a double bill of He Shuming’s “Ajoomma” and Kai Ko’s “Bad Education.” It will close with Zhang Yimou’s blockbuster period epic “Full River Red.” In between, the festival will showcase a stunning 78-title array of commercial and art-house films from across East Asia. Operating according to a motto of diversity –implying cultural asymmetries and artistic multiplicities – the 25th edition of the festival will run April 21-29. Organizers say that their selection “shows in real time how the cinemas of East and Southeast Asia have re-emerged from the gruelling period of the pandemic, not all in the same way and not all with the same results.”

King Princess has announced a five-date run of headline shows for the UK and Europe, tying in with her upcoming run of festival dates and opening slots for Sigur Rós and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.After she delivers sets at a trio of festivals – Rock Werchter in the titular Belgian city, Lollapalooza in Stockholm and Down The Rabbit Hole in Ewijk – the indie-pop magnate (whose real name is Mikaela Straus) will perform her own show at Amsterdam’s Paradiso venue on Tuesday July 4. She’ll then head to Madrid for this year’s Mad Cool festival, before headlining Kaufleuten in Zurich on Sunday July 9.Straus’ trek will continue with a one-off show opening for Sigur Rós in Lucca, Italy – set to go down on Tuesday July 11 – as well as her first show with the Chili Peppers, scheduled for Friday July 14 at the Vienna Stadium.

Charna Flam ATX TV festival has announced that the festival will open with the world premiere of FX’s “Justified: City Primeval” and include a “Dawson’s Creek” 25th-anniversary screening and conversation. The festival’s 12th edition will also host conversations with the cast and crews of “Outlander,” “The Good Doctor,” “Primo,” “Jury Duty,” “Everyone Is Doing Great” and “The Righteous Gemstones.” The ATX TV festival is slated to run from June 1-4. “Justified: City Primeval” will pick up after 15 years since Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) left Kentucky, and extends the “Justified” universe. Based on Elmore Leonard’s novel “City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit,” the upcoming series premieres this summer on FX. Showrunners and executive producers Dave Andron and Michael Dinner will join the cast and crew at the June 1 screening and conversation.

Arab Strap have announced a series of shows to mark the 25th anniversary of their second album ‘Philophobia’. Billed as ‘Philophobia Undressed’, the shows will see the duo perform a stripped back version of the full album, featuring “a guitar or two, some drum machines and probably a digital Mellotron”.“With a new album about halfway ready for release next year, we thought we could easily ignore our second album’s 25th birthday”, they say.

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Sagafilm Nordic, the Icelandic banner behind Cineflix’s hit show “The Minister,” is set to produce another politics-themed series, “President Salka.” The six-episode comedy series is penned by Jóhann Ævar Grímsson, the talent behind the critically acclaimed series “Stella Blómkvist.” It has been commissioned by leading Icelandic streamer Siminn, and is expected to go into production this year for a delivery during the second quarter of 2024. An up-and-coming stand-up comedian is in negotiations to take on the lead role. “President Salka” follows the adventures of a vivacious and prominent influencer, Salka Guðrúnar Eddudóttir, who gets elected as the president of Iceland in a stunning nationwide upset. The unexpected news throws the government into a state of emergency, leading to an intense all-night crisis meeting. Meanwhile, Salka moves into the luxurious presidential residence at Bessastaðir and captivates the whole country with her charisma. However, her unconventional methods put Iceland’s independence and sovereignty at risk, causing concern among those around her.

Beninese artist and songwriter Angélique Kidjo, Estonian composer Arvo Pärt and Island Records founder Chris Blackwell have been announced as the recipients of this year’s Polar Music Prize.They will be presented with their prizes and 600,000 Swedish Kroner at a ceremony in Stockholm on 23 May, which will be livestreamed on YouTube if you fancy watching it.Bigging up this year’s winners, the prize’s MD Marie Ledin says: “Angélique Kidjo is an inspirational artist, she constantly explores and challenges and is one of the greatest singer-songwriters in international music. James Cameron’s Titanic is getting another release in China, this one timed to the 25th anniversary of the original film. An April 3 launch date has been set. The version going out on that day will be a remastered 3D 4K HDR update, as was the version that was released elsewhere in February, and will include a premium large format component. Factory released the trailer for Wednesday.It’s also the name documentary filmmaker Zoe (James) chooses for her project following childhood friend and neighbor Kaz (Latif) on his journey to an arranged (or “assisted”) marriage. Naman Ramachandran Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service has acquired Makbul Mubarak’s award-winning debut feature, “Autobiography,” for the Southeast Asian region. The film, which is being sold by Alpha Violet, follows young Rakib (Kevin Ardilova), whose father is in prison and whose brother works abroad. He works as the housekeeper in a mansion in a rural Indonesian town belonging to retired general Purna (Arswendy Bening Swara). Purna returns to the town to start his mayoral election campaign and Rakib, whose clan has worked for the general’s family for centuries, serves as his assistant. An act of vandalism during the campaign triggers an escalating chain of violence.
