It’s the end of an era on “Succession.” In a shocking turn of events, family patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox) died while on a flight to Stockholm in the third episode of Season 4. The episode, titled “Connor’s Wedding,” begins with the Roy siblings, Greg, Gerri and Hugo boarding a boat to Liberty Island for Willa and Connor’s nuptials. Tom, Kerry, Karolina, Frank and Karl accompany Logan on his jet as he travels to a meeting with Lukas Mattson regarding the now-uncertain GoJo acquisition. As Logan boards his jet, he informs Roman (Kieran Culkin) that he won’t be attending the event, and instructs him to fire Gerri (J. Smith-Cameron).

Annika Pham L.A.-based Dynamic Television has acquired worldwide rights to the Swedish series “The Pirate Bay,” about the notorious pirate BitTorrent site and its co-founders Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, and Gottfrid Swartholm. The six-part series, set to go unto production this fall, is being produced by Stockholm and L.A.-based powerhouse B-Reel Films (“Midsommar,” “Before We Die”) for Swedish pubcaster SVT. “I Am Zlatan” helmer Jens Sjögren is directing, from a screenplay by head-writer Piotr Marciniak (“Everything I Can’t Remember”), with Patrik Gyllström (“Agatha Christie’s Hjerson”) serving as episodic writer. The character-driven show turns on Peter, Fredrik and Gottfrid, who ended up creating in 2003 one of the world’s largest BitTorrent indexes as a reaction to big business trying to take control file sharing over the Internet.

Udine Festival Unveils Stunning Selection of Asian Films for 25th Anniversary Edition

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief The Far East Film Festival in Italy’s Udine will open with a double bill of He Shuming’s “Ajoomma” and Kai Ko’s “Bad Education.” It will close with Zhang Yimou’s blockbuster period epic “Full River Red.” In between, the festival will showcase a stunning 78-title array of commercial and art-house films from across East Asia. Operating according to a motto of diversity –implying cultural asymmetries and artistic multiplicities – the 25th edition of the festival will run April 21-29. Organizers say that their selection “shows in real time how the cinemas of East and Southeast Asia have re-emerged from the gruelling period of the pandemic, not all in the same way and not all with the same results.”

King Princess has announced a five-date run of headline shows for the UK and Europe, tying in with her upcoming run of festival dates and opening slots for Sigur Rós and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.After she delivers sets at a trio of festivals – Rock Werchter in the titular Belgian city, Lollapalooza in Stockholm and Down The Rabbit Hole in Ewijk – the indie-pop magnate (whose real name is Mikaela Straus) will perform her own show at Amsterdam’s Paradiso venue on Tuesday July 4. Charna Flam ATX TV festival has announced that the festival will open with the world premiere of FX’s “Justified: City Primeval” and include a “Dawson’s Creek” 25th-anniversary screening and conversation. The festival’s 12th edition will also host conversations with the cast and crews of “Outlander,” “The Good Doctor,” “Primo,” “Jury Duty,” “Everyone Is Doing Great” and “The Righteous Gemstones.” The ATX TV festival is slated to run from June 1-4. “Justified: City Primeval” will pick up after 15 years since Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) left Kentucky, and extends the “Justified” universe. Based on Elmore Leonard’s novel “City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit,” the upcoming series premieres this summer on FX.
