Joe Otterson TV Reporter The Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid series in the works at Amazon has found its showrunners. Variety has learned that Alex Metcalf has boarded the show, currently titled “Butch & Sundance,” as showrunner and executive producer. Series creators Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers alongside Metcalf. The Firpos most recently wrote the screenplay for the Marvel film “Eternals.” Amazon has ordered the show straight-to-series. The show was first reported as being in development in September, with Regé-Jean Page attached to play Cassidy and Glen Powell playing Sundance. At that time, it was reported that deals for the show were not yet closed and discussions were ongoing.

This January, 03 Greedo was released from prison after serving just under six years of a 20-year sentence on gun and drug charges. In that time, he released six tapes including projects with Kenny Beats (Netflix & Deal) and Travis Barker (Meet The Drummers), part of a 3,000 song archive Greedo claimed to have recorded prior to his incarceration.

Ethan Shanfeld Grace Jones, the iconic singer, actor and fixture of New York City’s late-’70s disco scene, will return to Manhattan to perform at the 2023 Blue Note Jazz Festival, marking her first solo headlining show in the city in over 10 years. Jones will kick off the 12th annual edition of the festival on May 31 at Hammerstein Ballroom. On June 24, NxWorries (Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge) and Robert Glasper with Lalah Hathaway and Bilal will perform at the fest, which takes place at seven major venues across New York City, ranging from the famous Greenwich Village jazz club Blue Note to the Beacon Theatre. Other locations include Sony Hall, Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell, The Town Hall and Central Park’s SummerStage.

BreAnna Bell Oscar Isaac is in discussions to lead “Helltown,” sources say. The series is currently in development at Amazon. According to the logline, the hour-long, 8-episode crime thriller follows the life of Kurt Vonnegut before he became known to the world as a renowned author. Per Amazon, “In 1969 Kurt was a struggling novelist and car salesman living life with his wife and five children on Cape Cod. When two women disappear and are later discovered murdered underneath the sand dunes on the outskirts of Provincetown, Kurt becomes obsessed and embroiled in the chilling hunt for a serial killer and forms a dangerous bond with the prime suspect.”

Last night, director Edward Berger officially became an Oscar-winning filmmaker thanks to the Best International Film win for “All Quiet on the Western Front.” And it doesn’t appear that Berger is going to even stop to take a breath as the filmmaker’s next project has just been announced. According to Deadline, Edward Berger is signed on to direct and produce a new Amazon series, “Helltown,” which will be produced by Robert Downey Jr.

For a show about a post-apocalyptic world torn apart by a deadly fungus that creates zombie-like creatures, there weren’t a whole lot of zombies in the final episodes of “The Last of Us.” Series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have seen the complaints about the infrequent zombie mayhem in the HBO drama series, but fans can rest assured that Season 2 will have “a lot more infected.” “Ultimately, we generally stressed the power of relationships and trying to find significance within moments of action,” Mazin told reporters during a virtual press conference for “The Last of Us” last week. “And so there may be less action than some people wanted because we couldn’t necessarily find significance for quite a bit of it, or [there was] concern that it would be repetitive. After all, you’re not playing it, you’re watching it. And although a lot of people do like to watch gameplay, it needs to be a little more focused and purposeful when we’re putting it on TV.”
