Cate Blanchett, Christos Nikou Discuss Greek Oscar Contender ‘Apples’ and Movie’s Accidental Timeliness

If you’re a massive fan of the film, “The House with a Clock in Its Walls,” then, boy oh boy, do we have good news for you! You see, the two stars of that film, Cate Blanchett and Jack Black, are reuniting on the new action film, “Borderlands,” with ‘Clock’ filmmaker Eli Roth. It’s a reunion, uh, three years in the making.

Jack Black is the lastest a-lister to join Liongate and director Eli Roth’s feature adaptation of the bestselling videogame Borderlands. Black will voice the role of Claptrap, a persistently sarcastic robot that isn’t all that invested in the survival of his teammate.

It was in Venice and Cate Blanchett was playing hooky. Escaping from her duties as jury president for the 2020 Venice International Film Festival, the Oscar-winning actress snuck off to check out some of the films screening outside the festival's main competition.

Jamie Lee Curtis is the latest actor attached to star in Borderlands.

The film, written by Eric Matthew Brown with Bert and Bertie (Troop Zero) set to direct, will be produced by Cate Blanchett, Coco Francini and Andrew Upton of Dirty Films alongside Brian Oliver and Bradley Fischer of New Republic. This is the first feature acquired under Dirty Films’ first look deal with New Republic.

Christos Nikou’s feature debut Apples was already a buzzed about title heading into its premiere at the Venice Film Festival last September, and ultimately emerged with a very notable champion in that edition’s jury president Cate Blanchett. Her company, Dirty Pictures, boarded the movie not long after as executive producers for what is Greece’s entry to the International Feature Film Oscar race. Cohen Media Group has North America distribution rights.

Kevin Hart has a new film project on his plate. And surprisingly, it’s not a straight-up comedy that he is known for.

Kevin Hart has closed a deal to star alongside Cate Blanchett in Borderlands, Eli Roth’s feature film adaptation of the bestselling series of video games in the works at Lionsgate.

The Illuminerdi, and his deal has now closed after months of negotiations. Hart will play Roland, a skilled ex-soldier turned mercenary, in the film in what will be a more dramatic turn for the comedian.“I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin,” Roth said in a statement.
