Britney Spears' father, Jamie P. Spears, has agreed to step down as the pop star's conservator once a proper plan is in place, Fox News can confirm.  The two have been locked in a court battle over the past few years as the singer works to regain control of her life.

Britney Spears wants the immediate removal of dad Jamie Spears from her conservatorship.In court documents obtained by ET, Britney's attorney, Mathew Rosengart, filed a motion requesting that the judge expedite Jamie's removal as conservator of her estate ahead of the scheduled Sept. 29 hearing.

Last month, Spears petitioned for Rosengart to be appointed as her attorney after her court-appointed attorney Samuel D. Ingham III resigned.

The conservator of Britney Spears’ personal affairs, Jodi Montgomery, has backed moves to have the singer’s father removed from his position overseeing his daughter’s estate. In a legal filing, Montgomery also claims that Spears’ doctors agree that this is the best course of action.Earlier this week, Britney’s new attorney Mathew Rosengart filed a request to remove Jamie Spears from the conservatorship that has run his client’s financial and personal affairs since 2008.
