His father is of Irish descent and his mother is from Dublin. After he was born in Kent, George was raised in Woolwich, the second of five children. Before he became famous in the band Culture Club, he performed as "Lieutenant Lush" in the group Bow Wow Wow.
He then started his own band, Sex Gang Children, which became Culture Club. With singles such as Karma Chameleon and Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, Boy George became an overnight success and was played across the world.
