Three big fights take place this weekend for boxing fans to enjoy with top class action taking place across the globe. There are two world championship fights taking place in the US, while a top British prospect will fight in an exciting card on Saturday night.
Firstly, Jonathan Gonzalez will square off against Mark Anthony Barriga on Friday night for the WBO World Junior Flyweight Championship. Gonzalez represents Puerto Rico but the fight will be fought at Osceola Heritage Park in Florida.
Barriga is the challenger for Gonzales's crown with a record of 11-1-0 and will be hopeful that he can be the fourth man to defeat Gonzales on the first defence of his WBO crown.
The second big fight of the weekend sees the unbeaten Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez will fight Srisaket Sor Rungvisai for the WBC World Super Flyweight Championship in Texas. Rodriguez has a 15-0-0 record and is the defending champion, at just 22-years old he is a top prospect in the world of boxing and certainly a name to watch out for in the future.
He will take on 35-year-old former multiple world champion Rungvisai in what is sure to be a thrilling encounter. There is also a top quality undercard for fans to enjoy with Murodjon Akhmadaliev vs Ronny Rios and Jessica McCaskill vs Alma Ibarra offering an intriguing appetizer to the main event.
Also on Saturday night, Birmingham's Sam Eggington takes on the challenge of Przemyslaw Zysk at the Skydome in Coventry. The 28-year-old Eggington holds the WBC Silver middleweight title while his opponent is unbeaten with a record of 18-0-0 and will be tough to conquer in the middleweight clash which could see the winner move into world title contention.
