Boris Johnson faces fresh claims over his crass comments after allegedly telling aides he would rather let Covid "rip" than impose a second lockdown.

The Prime Minister said lockdowns were "mad" in September - just as cases began ticking upwards - and voiced fears about the economic harm they would do, it is reported.

He even expressed regret about imposing the first lockdown in March, according to The Times. The newspaper claimed he privately compared himself to the fictional mayor in Jaws -
