The Papa Johns Trophy is perhaps not the highest priority for clubs in the EFL but Bolton Wanderers have made £20,000 from the competition already without kicking a ball in anger.
That is because all 48 EFL League One and League Two clubs get that amount of money each just for entering the competition, which also includes 16 'invited' under-21 teams. Wanderers begin their run in the Papa Johns this evening with a 7pm kick-off against Crewe Alexandra.
Wanderers are in Group B in the Northern section of the competition. They will also face Tranmere Rovers and Leeds United's under-21s.

Previous seasons have seen Bolton take on the youth teams of Liverpool and Newcastle United in the group phase. Wanderers were beaten at the last 16 phase last season by Hartlepool United.
The top two teams in the group will progress to the last 32 of the competition and the knockout phase. A total of nearly £3 million in prize money is available in the Papa Johns Trophy.
Here is the breakdown:
Club participation: £20,000
Group Stages: £10,000 per win £5,000 per draw
Round Two: £20,000 per win
Round Three: £40,000 per win
Quarter-Finals £50,000 per win

KEY DATES: Group stages will then be followed by the round of 32 (w/c November 21, round of 16 (w/c December 12), quarter-finals (w/c January 9) and semi-finals (w/c February 13).
