That singular moment compelled many, including those in the music business, to pledge funds and action. It also gave birth to the Black Music Action Coalition, a collective of Black creators, activists and change-makers who have diligently kept the issue in the headlines and on the minds of corporate parents. On Sept. 22, the organization — whose leadership includes industry veterans Damien Smith, Caron Veazey and Shawn Holiday, among others — celebrates its second annual Music in Action gala in Beverly Hills, where honorees include Lil Baby, Sony Music Publishing chairman Jon Platt, 300 Elektra Entertainment’s Kevin Liles and 1619 Project creator Nikole Hannah-Jones. It promises to be a gathering of heavies, as last year’s inaugural fete — Variety is a media sponsor — drew the Weeknd, Motown chairwoman Ethiopia Habtemariam and attorney Ben Crump.

Three men were charged Wednesday with stealing more than $2.6 million in a brazen smash-and-grab robbery at a Beverly Hills jewelry store, federal prosecutors said. Jimmy Lee Vernon III, 31, Ladell Tharpe, 37, and Deshon Bell, 20, all of Long Beach, were each indicted on one count each of conspiracy and interference with commerce by robbery, which carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for each count, the U.S.

Hardy is recovering after being hospitalized following an accident involving his tour bus.The artist and some of his tour team were traveling to Nashville early Sunday morning, after performing at a show in Bristol, Tennessee, when the bus crashed, and all four people on the tour bus needed to be treated for «significant injuries.»The musician shared a statement on Twitter on Sunday, where he also asked for prayers for the bus's driver, who is still in the hospital and surrounded by his family as he undergoes treatment.«Following last night’s show, our tour bus was in an accident on our way home from Bristol. There were just four of us, including myself, on the bus, however we were all treated for significant injuries,» Hardy wrote in a statement posted to Twitter on Sunday.
The next installment in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise is continuing to add star power to its all-star cast as Kevin Bacon is set to join Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. Production on the sequel is underway with Mark Molloy directing. Murphy is back as Axel Foley and will produce along with Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films.
