Benedict Cumberbatch to star in Netflix thriller series The 39 Steps

EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, Netflix has landed an untitled espionage drama from Entertainment One and Hypnotic that is a star vehicle for Noah Centineo, who’s playing Atom Smasher in the Dwayne Johnson  DC/New Line film Black Adam. The hourlong series, which has received an eight-episode order, is created by The Rookie creator Alexi Hawley who will serve as showrunner. Hawley and Centineo will be executive producers alongside Hypnotic’s Doug Liman, Gene Klein and David Bartis.

Israeli actor and screenwriter Lior Raz may not be a household name in America, but obviously, Netflix doesn’t care, they’ve got a global market to be concerned with, and clearly, the algorithm favors him. People are watching the things Raz has helped create, like the Israeli political thriller television series “Fauda,” which is a hit and he co-created.

Elizabeth Olsen is currently revelling in the success of her Marvel series WandaVision. The show became an instant hit thanks to its clever storytelling and performances by Olsen and Paul Bettany.

Netflix has unfortunately announced which titles will be permanently removed from the streaming service beginning in May of 2021.

Yesterday saw the collision of two cultural institutions that peaked a long, long time ago: The Simpsons and Morrisey. The former Smiths frontman was parodied on last night's episode of the cartoon sitcom for an episode titled “Panic On The Streets Of Springfield.” In the episode, Morrissey is skewered by the character "Quilloughby," voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, who ages into a racist, bloated performer.

Morrissey has responded to the latest episode of The Simpsons which sent up The Smiths in a statement, saying “Writing for The Simpsons evidently requires only complete ignorance”.The episode, titled Panic On The Streets of Springfield, aired April 19.

Morrissey was apparently quite upset over the parody of him on The Simpsons over the weekend.

Netflix has given a formal eight-episode series order to Florida Man. Edgar Ramírez, star of the streamer’s popular movie Yes Day, will headline the hourlong series from veteran TV writer producer Donald Todd and Jason Bateman & Michael Costigan’s Aggregate Films.

Last year saw the release of the disappointing new adaptation of “Rebecca,” and now, the streaming is developing a new adaptation of “The 39 Steps” as a limited series, with Benedict Cumberbatch starring.
