BBC Breakfast star Carol Kirkwood thinks she will be axed from the show before her 70th birthday.
The 60-year-old broadcaster, who has hosted the weather on the morning show since 1997, admitted she doesn't want to leave and hopes it happens 'naturally' when the time comes. The Scottish presenter has opened up about her future on the BBC show, as she admitted: “I try not to worry about things I can’t change. I don’t want to go, but one day it’s going to happen.
"Hopefully it will be ‘naturally’ but I also have to acknowledge I’m 60 and am unlikely to be at the BBC when I’m 70, I would have thought. It’s the natural course of events... I don’t want to be using a stairlift to get to the studio in the morning. But I love my job.”
Carol also spoke about being newly engaged to her fiancé known only as Steve, but added they are not sure when the big day will be. She split from her first husband, property developer Jimmy Kirkwood, in 2008 after 18 years.
She told the Western Mail: “We’re not galloping towards it. It’s nice, because the first time I got married, I was young, so you’re involved in the wedding almost from the time you get engaged. This time it’s nice because there’s no pressure – it’s nice to enjoy it and do it at our own pace.”
The mystery man popped the question to Carol in May, as she announced her engagement live on air to her colleagues. When she was at The Chelsea Flower Show, she happily flashed her new ring to presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay back in the studio.
At the time, she said: “We got engaged when we were on holiday. So it's lovely news and we're both thrilled.” Retelling the story on The One Show, she added the proposal took her by surprise when they went for a picnic down by the river before
