‘Batgirl’ Directors: We Were Blocked From Accessing Footage After Studio Canceled Movie

Ethan Shanfeld Earlier this month, Warner Bros. Discovery kicked off a wave of cancellations and cost-cutting measures by scrapping DC’s $90 million “Batgirl” movie starring Leslie Grace, which was already in post-production. In a new interview with French outlet Skript, “Batgirl” co-directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah revealed that the studio blocked their access to footage after axing the film. “Adil called and told me, ‘Go ahead. Shoot everything on your mobile,'” Fallah said. “I went on the server … Everything was gone.” El Arbi added: “We were like, ‘Fucking shit!’ All the scenes with Batman in them!”

WB Reportedly Debating Whether To Bring Back Leslie Grace As ‘Batgirl,’ While Certain DC Projects Remain Question Marks

Sick of the DC Universe and all its loose lips, sinking ships, and various PR disasters? Sorry, there’s more to come, but suffice to say, for the last few weeks, ever since the “Batgirl” was canceled, it’s been a rollercoaster ride for the company that’s seemingly in the press every day for one negative story after another. Either it’s something that their too-toxic-to-touch “The Flash” actor Ezra Miller did or got arrested for, or it’s some update on “Batgirl” that make the optics of canceling an Afro-Latinx-led project while continuing to support a film by an embattled white actor who has had the worst PR of 2022 look worse and worse.

Will Michael Keaton still be Batman after ‘Batgirl’ cancellation?

The Post broke the story Tuesday that the mostly completed DC film wouldn’t hit theaters or stream on HBO Max.The “Birdman” actor previously donned the black leather suit as Bruce Wayne/The Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s 1989 flick “Batman” and its 1992 sequel, “Batman Returns.”However, due to the canceled movie, Keaton will possibly have a diminished role in the DC universe in upcoming projects. The Hollywood Reporter revealed on Wednesday that his character was “at the center” of a big action sequence in “Batgirl.”The outlet also noted how Keaton’s Batman is an important part of next year’s Ezra Miller-fronted movie “The Flash.” Sources then added that he also filmed shots for the forthcoming “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”The “Aquaman” sequel was supposed to debut before “The Flash,” thus explaining how Keaton’s iteration of Batman was central to the current DC storylines.Ben Affleck — who took over the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and 2017’s “Justice League” — is back for the ocean-filled sequel. The Post reported on Tuesday that test audiences were allegedly “confused” about how Keaton’s Batman fit into “Aquaman 2.”Leslie Grace, J.K. Simmons, Jacob Scipio and Brendan Fraser were also set to star in “Batgirl” alongside Keaton. The cast was “humiliated” by Warner Bros.
