The 36th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards are underway Thursday night, with the final big awards show ahead of the Oscars taking on a different look for its virtual edition airing live on IFC and AMC+ and hosted by SNL‘s Melissa Villaseñor. The marquee indie-focused awards show was forced by the pandemic to move to a virtual ceremony from its usual spot on the beach in Santa Monica, and away from its traditional day-before-the-Oscars date.

BRIT Awards are set to host a live audience at next month’s ceremony as part of a series of government pilot events.Last month, it was announced that the UK was planning a dozen test events across April and May to trial the idea of crowds with no social distancing.The BRITs were touted as one of the events to participate, and the event has now confirmed that its 2021 ceremony will feature a crowd of 2,500, with free tickets being offered to frontline workers.

The 2021 British Academy Film Awards saw one of its most diverse list of winners yet, as hosts Edith Bowman and Dermot O'Leary kicked off the virtual ceremony on Sunday. The star-studded ceremony, filmed at London's Royal Albert Hall, saw a huge night of success of international talent, with Daniel Kaluuya continuing his clean sweep with a win for Best Supporting Actor.

Priyanka Chopra led the stars in getting their glam on, sharing behind-the-scenes snaps of her hair being styled and enjoying a glass of fizz ahead of the ceremony. Taking to Instagram, Priyanka seemed to be in great spirits as she had her hair styled into a chic up do, with two strands down at the front to frame her features.

Will the DGA make history tonight? Should Nomadland director Chloé Zhao or Promising Young Woman filmmaker Emerald Fennell win in the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film category, it will rep the second time that the DGA has awarded its top prize to a female director after Kathryn Bigelow for 2008’s The Hurt Locker.
