Sophie Monks Kaufman of IndieWire writes that Dominik doesn’t quite give enough effort in saying or showing something about the pop culture icon. “The film is Dominik’s finger pointed at everyone who had a hand traumatizing his leading lady, from her mother trying to drown her in the bath aged 7 to her death from an overdose of barbiturates at 36 after being used and abused by the Hollywood machine,” Kaufman adds.Vanity Fair’s Richard Lawson also points out the exploitation employed in the movie, noting the “boldly and complexly mounted” technique “could actually be in service of something far simpler and more base.”“‘Blonde’is a film partly about exploitation that might be exploitative itself. If the film is aware of that meta function, then there’s something interesting happening in it,” Lawson’s review continued.

Blonde,” at the Venice Film Festival this week. While promoting the film by director Andrew Dominik, the 34-year-old actress arrived at the festival in black Gianvito Rossi heels and a royal blue Louis Vuitton number, her micro-shorts reminiscent of Monroe’s, Vogue reported. The blond icon, who became Hollywood’s epitome of sex in the 1950s, was known for often wearing the pinup-inspired Daisy Dukes. While de Armas’ shorts were a bit longer, she still brought Monroe’s classic style into the present day.De Armas, who was born in Cuba, gave another ode to Monroe while in Venice when she blew a kiss to the crowd — a gesture almost identical to Marilyn’s way of greeting fans.Despite the A-list backlash the “Knives Out” actress received over her casting — namely, critics spitting on her “bad” accent — the Monroe estate defended her being cast in the movie, based on Joyce Carol Oates’ 2000 novel.Marc Rosen, the president of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group which owns the Marilyn Monroe Estate, said de Armas has “big shoes to fill.”“Based on the trailer alone, it looks like Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn’s glamour, humanity, and vulnerability.

Ana de Armas doesn’t “understand” why ‘Blonde’ received NC-17 rating

Blonde received in the US.Directed by Andrew Dominik and based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde is described as a story which reimagines the life of Marilyn Monroe and “blurs the lines of fact and fiction”.Earlier this year, the Motion Picture Association gave the film a restrictive NC-17 rating, which recommends that no one under the age of 18 should see the project.Speaking to L’officiel USA about the rating, de Armas, who plays Monroe, said: “I didn’t understand why that happened. I can tell you a number of shows or movies that are way more explicit with a lot more sexual content than Blonde.“But to tell this story it is important to show all these moments in Marilyn’s life that made her end up the way that she did.
