Perthshire has two contenders at the first ever Great British Wedding Awards (GBWA) to be held in Birmingham next week.
George Urquhart, boss of 3G Catering Services UK only recently won at the Scottish Food Awards, taking the prize for wedding caterer of the year 2022, having won the national title previously in 2018.
Now his business 3G Catering Services UK, operating from kitchens in Aberuthven and an office in Gillies of Perth, is flying the flag not only for city and the wider region, but as the only catering business from Scotland shortlisted at the GBWA.
As the UK comes out of the pandemic, the outlook for weddings which was at an all-time low, is looking brighter with a flurry of couples getting hitched now the delays and restrictions have finally gone.
The new era has sparked event organisers Creative Oceanic to combine all four parts of the UK in one giant awards night, with winners of the inaugural GBWA announced at a dinner in Birmingham on Thursday, December 8.
A GBWA spokesperson said: “We hope to provide a platform to thank and appreciate the work of the professionals who have pushed the boundaries in a difficult time and had the continuous support of their customers.”
The early stages of the competition drew an “overwhelming response” from the public and a “phenomenal” number of nominations from happy clients were received.
3G Catering Services UK -www.3gcatering.co.uk - is Scotland’s only finalist in the prestigious Caterer of the Year category.
“I’m really excited to be going to the Great British Wedding Awards next Thursday,” said George.
“Myself and the head chef go to Birmingham on the Thursday, travel back by air on the Friday because, we’ve only got a wedding on the Saturday - it never stops!”
