‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’: ‘Shang-Chi’ Filmmaker’ Destin Daniel Cretton Will Direct The Marvel Blockbuster

“Watchmen” showrunner Damon Lindelof has an easy solution to the abundance of movies in the MCU: less is more. Variety reports that when Lindelof dropped in on Vulture’s “Into It” podcast, he offered his antidote as to why moviegoers and Disney+ subscribers feel like Marvel movies have grown stale.

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. Discovery made a drastic decision: axing a nearly completed “Batgirl” movie, shocking many fans and non-fans alike with the news that a $90 million-budgeted superhero pic would never see the light of day.

In terms of modern-day influence on a genre, you would be hard-pressed to find a more influential film than “John Wick.” Since that film’s release in 2014, “John Wick” has gone on to be the film that most action features since have tried to emulate. From the fight choreography to the revenge story to just about everything else, studios and filmmakers have tried to copy (mostly failing) what director Chad Stahelski and his crew were able to do nearly a decade ago.

Over the weekend, Marvel Studios announced their big Phase 5 and Phase 6 plans with a slate of titles/release dates. Of course, their “Fantastic Four” was part of those updates, and we learned that the Phase 6 pic is set for release on November 8, 2024.

The studio has confirmed to Deadline that Destin Daniel Cretton has been tapped to direct Avengers: Kang Dynasty. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced over the weekend that that the film was in development, and the studio will now look to add a writer to the project as meetings are currently underway.
