Austin Butler transforms into hip-shaking Elvis Presley in trailer for Baz Luhrmann biopic

Austin Butler definitely managed to get Elvis Presley’s signature dance moves down to a tee as he turns into the King of Rock and Roll in the upcoming biopic. The 30-year-old actor takes the lead role in Elvis, the Baz Luhrmann biopic about the music sensation, charting his rise to fame. The trailer for the long-awaited movie has finally been released, seeing Austin take on Elvis’s southern drawl as he meets his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks.
The film will follow Elvis’s journey from an aspiring singer in Memphis, Tennessee, to becoming one of the world’s biggest stars. In the first clips, Colonel Tom can be seen scouting Elvis, with whom he would go on to have a tumultuous relationship, as he tells him: ‘I wish to promote you Mr Presley. (Metro)Fans also get to see a glimpse of Elvis’s real-life home, the Graceland mansion, which he bought in 1957 and which now serves as a tourist attraction visited by over 650,000 fans each year.
Production on the film took place in Australia but had to be paused due to the coronavirus pandemic, with Tom being one of the first stars to go public after contracting Covid-19 during filming in March 2020. Baz said during a Q&A after the trailer was released: ‘Someone like Shakespeare would take a very iconic, famous character and try and explore a larger theme. ‘And if you want to explore America in the 50s, the 60s and the 70s you couldn’t pick a greater, more iconic life than that of Elvis Presley.
