A supermarket security guard was left with a painful bite wound and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) when a customer's dog clung to his leg and sunk its teeth into his skin.
Christoper Long, aged 30, had gone to an Asda store on July 14, 2020, at approximately 4pm to buy a fizzy drink but was told by staff to leave with the American Bulldog Cross that he had entered with.
Sheffield Crown Court heard how Long became confrontational in the S outh Yorkshire, store when a security guard was called over and he was asked to leave once more, reports Yorkshire Live.
As Long made a sudden movement, the dog bit the guard on the thigh, inflicting a mark that had to be stitched up at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
Prosecutor Fatima Zafar told the court how the victim suffered psychologically from the ordeal and now experienced panic attacks when coming face-to-face with dogs in the street.
He also had to give up his job as the area of injury became numb and made it impossible to stand for prolonged periods.
In a victim impact statement read to the court by Ms Zafar, the victim said his new job meant he had to visit the village of Edlington every now and then, causing anxiety until he left the area.
The security guard also suffered an infection to the wound and had to take antibiotics until August 2021.
He has been diagnosed with anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder in the wake of the ordeal and has been on medication and having counselling sessions to help with the long-lasting effects of the ordeal.
