Ted Lasso became the feelgood hit of the summer last year with Jason Sudekis even persuading a group of hardened British football fans to fall in love with the Apple TV+ original comedy. The series was also a hit in Hollywood, picking up a slew of awards including Sudekis winning best actor at the Golden Globes. It also won a Peabody Award this week.

The Peabody Awards kicked off five days, yes, five days of winners announcements on Monday, and today’s big winners were “Ted Lasso,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and the Oscar-nominated documentary, “Time.” These honors were presented virtually by Will Ferrell, Steve Carell and D.L. Hugley, respectively.

Last year, “Ted Lasso” was simply an under-the-radar comedy about a character invented for a TV commercial. But after turning into a surprise hit with critics and audiences alike, it returns to the pitch for a second season as one of Apple TV+’s headliners.

It’s almost hard to imagine Jason Sudeikis starring in “Ted Lasso” next to any other ensemble of actors. From Hannah Waddingham‘s brilliant portrayal of the fictional AFC Richmond football club owner Rebecca Welton to Juno Temple‘s scene-stealing Keely Jones or Nick Mohammad as the smarter than he looks kit man (that’s an equipment manager for us Yanks), the Apple TV+ series is something of a casting marvel.
