Apple has been accused of ' bullying ' and 'peer pressure' tactics to make users to switch to iPhone.
Hiroshi Lockheimer, a Google senior vice president, lashed out at Apple for their 'documented strategy' of stigmatising Android users.
The tech exec's remarks were in response to a Wall Street Journal article on how Apple 'sealed its dominance' over teens due to the 'dreaded' green text bubble.
On iPhone's Message app, texts from Android users are immediately recognisable.
The texts show up as an infamously 'ugly' bright green bubble compared to the blue bubble iPhone users' texts appear.
Apple users' infamous disdain for the lime green texts from Android has been documented online.
Lockheimer tweeted: "Apple's iMessage lock-in is a documented strategy. Using peer pressure and bullying as a way to sell products is disingenuous for a company that has humanity and equity as a core part of its marketing. The standards exist today to fix this."
The official Android Twitter account also accused Apple of bullying.
Android tweeted: "iMessage should not benefit from bullying. Texting should bring us together, and the solution exists. Let’s fix this as one industry."
The tweet was followed by two hearts: one green, one blue.
People on social media waded into the debate as some adults shared that they had also been marked out for using Android.
"It's not just teens. When I switched to iPhone from Android in 2018, my family, one of my Board Members, and half a dozen colleagues said to me - "Oh, you *finally* got an iPhone." I had an Android for 9 years and had no idea this was even a thing," tweeted one man.
