Annan Athletic stalwart can't wait for Scottish Cup tie with Rangers

Annan Athletic skipper Steven Swinglehurst is counting down the hours until tomorrow’s Scottish Cup fifth-round collision with Rangers.

And he reckons that the Light Blues’ new loan signing Aaron Ramsey, from Juventus, will be the most famous player ever to take to the Galabank pitch.

Swinglehurst also told how he has been besieged for tickets since the cup draw was made and added: “We get a couple of free tickets as players and there are some you can pay for, but there has been so many people onto me looking for them.

“I’ve played against Rangers before a few times so I don’t know if I can say this is the biggest game of my career.

“I played in the game at Ibrox where we beat them and I am the last one standing from that time.

“It’s a free game for us because everybody is expecting that Rangers will come here and batter us. So we have nothing to lose really.

“And if Aaron Ramsey plays here he will be the biggest player to ever play at Galabank.

“I actually prefer Rangers to the other team (in Glasgow), but it is all about how we play on the day.

“It’s going to be tough and they will have the majority of the ball. But we will get a chance in the game and if we take it then who knows?

“It will be 90 minutes against the best team in the country so we will see how it goes and hopefully we can get something out of the game.”

The Galabankies surrendered their unbeaten run of 11 league and cup games last weekend in a 2-0 home defeat against Stenhousemuir despite dominating for most of the encounter.

Meanwhile, Rangers bounced back from their 3-0 mauling by Celtic to crush Hearts 5-0 and Hibernian 2-0 at Ibrox with Ramsey coming off the bench in the last two matches.
