Brad Pitt slams Angelina Jolie’s ‘secret’ sale of French vineyard stake: suit

“Babylon” star had new business partners.“That was by design: Jolie collaborated in secret with Shefler and his associates to pursue and then consummate the purported sale, ensuring that Pitt would be kept in the dark,” reads the amended complaint filed Thursday in Los Angeles court by Pitt’s attorneys.Shefler’s Stoli company and Jolie “knowingly violated Pitt’s and [his company] Mondo Bongo’s contractual rights and forced a stranger into Pitt’s family home,” continues the paperwork obtained by The Post. The former couple had an equal stake in the $160 million Chateau Miraval — they purchased a controlling interest in 2008 and used the 1,200-acre estate as their wedding venue in 2014.The pair, who split in 2016, had a “mutual and binding commitment… that, if the time ever came, neither could or would dispose of his or her interest separately without the other’s consent,” according to the newly filed court document. The Post has contacted reps for Pitt, 59, and Jolie, 47, for comment.Jolie’s attorneys have called Pitt’s claims “frivolous, malicious and part of a problematic pattern.”Pitt initially sued Jolie over the vineyard in February 2022, with Jolie’s company, Nouvel, filing a $250 million cross-complaint in the fall. This new paperwork claims the winery business was Pitt’s “passion,” leading him to team up with esteemed winemaker Marc Perrin in 2013.“Together they would create one of the first high-end rosé wines, branded as a family-owned, family-run French wine business. That strategy met with success.

Rooftop Films Sees Fierce Competion for Documentary Slots at New York’s Summer Series

Addie Morfoot Contributor Corporate consolidation, along with shrinking publicity budgets and streaming services’ willingness to bury their own content, have made film festivals and series increasingly desirable to documentary filmmakers who are not only seeking distribution, but also to those nonfiction helmers who have found a platform for their work. The rocky landscape has made the competition fierce for a slot at not only top-tier festivals, but also regional film events like New York’s Rooftop Films’ Summer Series. Over the course of the last year, Rooftop Films president Dan Nuxoll received 3,500 film submissions for the nonprofit organization’s 27th annual Summer Series, which kicks off on May 25. Only 23 feature films and seven shorts were accepted. (Not all films have been announced.)

"The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg was somewhat skeptical Thursday of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's account of the "near-catastrophic car chase" they were in after attending a New York City event this week, saying it "just doesn't work in New York." Calling it some "wacky stuff," Goldberg recounted how the spokesperson for Harry and Meghan used the loaded language to describe how their taxi was pursued by paparazzi. Following an event where the Duchess of Sussex received the 2023 Woman of Vision Award from Gloria Steinem, Markle, her husband and her mother, Doria Ragland, were pursued by swarms of photographers for "over two hours," which resulted in "multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road," according to a spokesperson for the royal couple.

‘Monica’ Star Trace Lysette Says Screening at New York’s LGBT Community Center Was ‘Heavy’: ‘I Got My Gender Identity Therapy There 20 Years Ago’

Marc Malkin Senior Film Awards, Events & Lifestyle Editor Trace Lysette is in a hotel room on 8th Street in New York City when she jumps on a Zoom video call with Variety to talk about her new movie, “Monica.” In just a couple of hours, she’s set to walk the red carpet at the indie drama’s premiere at the IFC Center. “I used to turn tricks a few blocks from there,” Lysette says. Like so many trans women, Lysette once turned to sex work as a means of survival. “I was a young person alone in New York doing God knows what to survive,” says Lysette, who was raised in Ohio. “Last night we had a screening at The [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community] Center here. That was so heavy for me because I got my gender identity therapy there 20 years ago.”
