Angel Studios Acquires Rights to Jim Caviezel Drama ‘Sound of Freedom’ Ahead of Theatrical Release (EXCLUSIVE)

Naman Ramachandran New York based Cargo Film & Releasing has acquired global rights, excluding France and Germany, to Germany-based Florian Film’s “The Books He Didn’t Burn,” which is narrated by Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons. Directed by Jascha Hannover, the film explores how Hitler’s personal library provides a look into his mind and how it significantly informed his worldview. While Hitler is better known for burning books than collecting them, the books he voraciously read provided the horrific rationale that led to the violence and harm he orchestrated toward Jewish people in 1930s and 1940s Europe. Contributors include Timothy W. Ryback, a historian and director of the Institute for Historical Justice and Reconciliation in The Hague, Delphine Horvilleur, France’s third female rabbi and many others.

Apple Original Films has announced that Ridley Scott’s upcoming historical epic “Napoleon” will have an exclusive theatrical release partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment on Wednesday, November 22, before streaming globally on Apple TV+. They haven’t announced a streaming date yet but we suspect it will be around Christmas.

The historical epic from Ridley Scott (no slouch when it comes to directing lavish looks at the past and explorations of the warrior way) will open in cinemas exclusively on Nov. 22 before streaming globally on Apple TV+ on an undetermined date. Sony Pictures will partner with Apple on the theatrical rollout. “Napoleon” stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader. Phoenix previously teamed with Scott on 2000’s mega-hit “Gladiator,” so there’s a track record there. But this film won’t be all Waterloo, all the time. In addition to epic battles, “Napoleon” will also look at the visionary commander’s volatile relationship with his wife, Josephine, who is played by Vanessa Kirby. Apple also released a first look image (above) from the film featuring Phoenix on horseback, saber unsheathed.

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Netflix has ordered “A Part of You,” a Swedish coming-of-age drama penned by Michaela Hamilton (“Eagles,” “A Class Apart”). Produced by SF Studios, the film will mark the directorial feature debut of Sigge Eklund, an acclaimed author and podcast host in Sweden. “A Part of You” will start production in Sweden later this summer and release globally on Netflix in 2024. “A Part of You” portrays the experience of a 17 year old girl, Agnes, whose older sister Julia possesses everything that Agnes dreams of: She’s the most popular girl at school and has a boyfriend. When the worst possible thing occurs, Agnes’ world is turned upside down and she’s forced to reinvent herself.

McKinley Franklin author Blumhouse has acquired the screen rights to the viral paranormal story of Deborah and Jessica Moffitt and forthcoming book manuscript, “Mr. Entity: The Moffitt Family Haunting,” Variety can exclusively reveal. The story of the Moffitt family took audiences by storm after Jessica published a 2022 article detailing their hauntings of a supernatural presence know as “Mr. Entity.” The Moffitts were terrorized by the supernatural spirit from the late 1980s to early 1990s, keeping the affairs under wraps to all those except paranormal experts. Blumhouse will develop the unscripted series with ITV America’s Good Caper Content through Blumhouse Television.

Paramount will give Martin Scorsese’s Killers Of The Flower Moon a theatrical release in France from October 18, Deadline has confirmed, in a move that will make the film subject to the country’s strict windowing rules.

Apple Original Films today laid out its release plans for Killers of the Flower Moon, the Martin Scorsese-directed adaptation of the David Grann book that pairs the helmer’s two favorite leading men, Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
