Amid Criticism, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti Says He Has Confidence In LAPD Chief Michel Moore: “I Know His Heart”

Like many celebrities, the “Game of Thrones” star, 24, took to Twitter on Sunday to share an image of herself joining protesters calling for police reform in the wake of the death of George Floyd, who died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minn., after an officer knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes.

The ACLU of Southern California on Wednesday filed suit against the city and county of Los Angeles and the city of San Bernadino over the curfews imposed in the areas in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death. The suit was filed on behalf of Black Lives Matter Los Angeles and four individual plaintiffs.

Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore issued a formal apology late Monday night for a comment he made earlier in the day during a press conference covering the protests, looting and curfew in Los Angeles. Moore ignited a firestorm on social media when he said of looters that the death of George Floyd was "on their hands, as much as it is on those [Minneapolis] officers'." The reaction to the comment was swift.

After riots in Los Angeles, Vanessa Bryant appreciated that murals of Kobe and Gigi were saved amid protests for George Floyd. Vanessa—who lost her husband and her 13-year-old daughter in a helicopter crash on January 26—took to her Instagram Stories on Monday, June 1, to share photos of several murals of Kobe and Gigi that went untouched by rioters.

While the protests in Los Angeles escalated to violence and vandalism over the weekend, murals honoring Kobe Bryant and his late daughter, Gianna, have largely remained untouched. As Vanessa Bryant shared on social media on Monday, even the one mural that was threatened by fire was saved from damage.
