Amblin TV, Scholastic Entertainment and Solo One Partner for ‘Signs of Survival: A Memoir of the Holocaust’

Manori Ravindran International Editor Corus Entertainment has struck an overall deal with U.K.-Canadian production company Dominion of Drama, and appointed its founder Jeff Norton as the head of its new imprint, Waterside Studios. Waterside Studios is positioned as a new IP and production venture focused on premium scripted Canadian content for youth and primetime audiences. The outfit will cater to the Canadian as well as international marketplace. Norton most recently served as a consultant for Corus, and previously as executive producer of “Trucktown” for production company Nelvana. He also co-wrote the novel “Keeping the Beat,” which was one of the launch titles for Kids Can Press’ young adult KCP Loft imprint.

Tiger Pictures Entertainment has acquired worldwide distribution rights outside of mainland China for hit sci-fi comedy film “Moon Man.“ The film, which has collected some $430 million at the Chinese box office to date, tells the story of “the last human in the universe” as an astronaut finds himself stranded on the moon after an asteroid wipes out life on earth. It is directed by Zhang Chiyu, who previously directed 2017 sports comedy hit “Never Say Die.” It was produced by Mahua FunAge, a consistently successful comedy production firm. FunAge’s “Goodbye Mr. Loser” and “Never Say Die” starred Shen Teng and Ma Li and “Moon Man” brings together the comedy duo once again.

Emmy-winning producer Dionne Harmon has been promoted to President at Jesse Collins Entertainment from her previous role as EVP Content and Strategy at JCE. In the newly created position, Harmon will oversee all aspects of the company’s creative strategy and financial growth. She will report to Collins.

NU’EST member Baekho is gearing up to release solo music later this year.This is according to South Korean media outlet Newsen, which reported yesterday (August 30) that Baekho was reportedly focusing on preparations for his debut solo album. The report added that the idol also recently finished a photo shoot for the album’s cover jacket.Pledis Entertainment, Baekho’s management agency, has since responded to the news through a press statement issued to Top Star News.

JYP Entertainment has announced it has taken legal action against “malicious”, defamatory posts made about 2PM singer and actor Lee Junho.On August 24, the South Korean label issued a statement via Korean news outlet OSEN, responding to widespread “defamation of character” against Junho and announcing its strict measures against its perpetrators, including “strong legal action”, per translations by Soompi. JYP Entertainment did not detail the posts and statements that are the subject of the criminal complaint it says it has filed.“We previously announced in the past that the spreading of false rumours and malicious posts about our artist would be subject to strong legal action,” the statement read.

BreAnna Bell Amblin Television has partnered up with Scholastic Entertainment’s media division and Marlee Matlin’s Solo One Productions to co-develop and co-produce a live-action limited series based on the memoir, “Signs of Survival: A Memoir of the Holocaust.” Written by Joshua M. Greene, the story follows the lives of Renee Hartman and her sister Herta as they stood together and watched the events of the Holocaust unfold. As Jews living in 1940s Czechoslovakia, Renee, Herta and their parents were in immediate danger when the Holocaust came to their door. As the only hearing person in her family, Renee had to alert her parents and sister whenever the sound of Nazi boots approached their home so they could hide. But soon their parents were tragically taken away, and the two sisters went on the run, desperate to find a safe place to hide. Communicating in sign language and relying on each other for strength, Renee and Herta would have to fight to survive the darkest of times.
