Alleged paedophile arrested at Glasgow's Buchanan Bus Station after vigilante sting

A man who allegedly tried to set up a meeting with an underage girl was arrested after being confronted by a paedophile hunter group at a bus station in Glasgow.

The 53-year-old, believed to be from Preston, in Lancashire, is alleged to have travelled for more than three hours to meet a 13-year-old girl he believed he had been talking to online.

Instead the man, who can not be identified for legal reasons, was met at Buchanan Bus Station by members of a group dedicated to tracking down predators.

Members of the group live streamed the confrontation with the man on their Facebook page, questioning him until the police arrived.

The group took the individual, who spoke with an English accent, to a car park near the station for around 35 minutes. Police were then seen arriving and the video ended shortly after.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 53-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged indecent online communications.

"Officers were called to Cowcaddens Road, Glasgow around 3.15pm on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 regarding the allegation.

"He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, November 17. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

While vigilante groups have provided evidence which has led to many successful prosecutions, Police Scotland's advice to the public is to report suspected sex offenders to police, rather than confronting them or taking the law into their own hands.
