CBS likes to renew its strongest series early; last year, the FBI franchise and The Equalizer were picked up in March. When May rolled around this year and none of the the Universal Television-produced CBS drama series, the highly rated FBI dramas and The Equalizer, as well as solid Friday performer Magnum P.I., had been renewed, it was clear that the two sides were going through grueling negotiations.
Jeannie Mai is proud of what the award-winning talk show accomplished. In April, it was announced that the daytime program hosted by Mai, Garcelle Beauvais, Adrienne Houghton and Loni Love was canceled — after eight seasons. “It’s hard because the show was the first of its kind. When you have a show that is by minority voices for minority voices, I gotta say, I didn’t have a show like that when I started,” Mai, 43, told ET’s Kevin Frazier.“And even today I’m like, 'Where can I go that has such a great culmination of different aspects and women's perspectives that come from different lives and cultures?' Especially as an Asian woman, I don't see that representation enough.” She continued, “So, for me getting off that show was hard because I still think we need a show like that. So, if we open doors for other shows like that to be in production, I’m excited about that.
The start of fall season is still four months away, but the returning network shows are already gearing up for their next go-round in primetime with hardly any time to celebrate their good fortune. The growth of streaming television and other platforms has severely weakened viewership for comedies and dramas on traditional broadcast TV; on the other hand, it’s also given a new lease on life to shows that might once have been cancelled due to low ratings — since the renewal bar has been significantly lowered as the networks try to hold on to their dwindling audiences in a fractured landscape. That’s good news for fans of ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox — which retained a fair number of their shows unlike The CW, which cancelled nine series going into the new season. With the networks firming up their fall schedules this week, it’s a good time to circle back to the returning tried-and-true favorites.
Not ready to say goodbye! Every year TV series inevitably come to an end, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to let our favorite characters go.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at LargeCBS has canceled the Chuck Lorre-produced sitcom “United States of Al” after two seasons, Variety has confirmed.“United States of Al” centers on the relationship between Marine combat veteran Riley (Parker Young) and his Afghan interpreter Awalmir, or “Al” (Adhir Kalyan), who finally lands a visa allowing him passage into the United States. Riley, who has separated from his wife, makes room for Al in his Ohio home, and together they struggle to adjust to their post-combat lives.Creators David Goetsch and Maria Ferrari, who worked for Lorre on “The Big Bang Theory,” began kicking around the idea for “Al” after seeing stories on the plight of 17,000 Afghan interpreters who have been promised asylum in the United States, but are still waiting to be granted entry.
Jennifer Maas TV Business WriterComedies and dramas traditionally make up a large portion of the broadcast TV landscape between September and May, but networks don’t deny the continuous draw of hit reality TV and competition shows. Each season, ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox, the so-called “Big 4” broadcasters, bring back old staples and add in new unscripted content in hopes of topping each other outside of their sitcoms and procedurals. While there could always be slight adjustments to season-long averages by the end of the traditional broadcast season in a few weeks, Variety has gathered Nielsen’s “most current” data through May 8 to rank ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox’s highest and lowest-rated unscripted series among adults 18-49. Below are the lists, which count 33 completed weeks of the soon-ending season.

Lori Harvey's beauty regularly takes our breath away, but her abs had partygoers stunned on the Met Gala carpet on Monday! The 25-year-old model arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City in a stunning custom Michael Kors Collection gown that featured a criss-cross bodice, highlighting abs that even the model's hunky actor star boyfriend, Michael B. Jordan, would be jealous of. This year's Met Gala accompanies the second part of the Costume Institute's exhibition, «In America: An Anthology of Fashion,» with a concept paying homage to the United States' Gilded Age, an era of immense economic growth and major industrialization, as well as massive income inequality, political upheaval, and post-Civil War racism.Dressed in the elegant black number with a train that seemed to go on for miles, Harvey kept true to the general nature of the controversial theme, exuding lavishness and glamour with two giant diamond rings on each hand and a matching pair of dangling diamond earrings. Harvey met her debut at 2017's Met Gala as part of Dolce & Gabanna's new DG Millennials.
