Alec Baldwin, 'Rust' producers file to dismiss lawsuit, Allred says not so fast

Alec Baldwin's quick return to work might have moviegoers questioning his "sincerity" after the "Rust" shooting left him saying he might never act again, according to an industry expert. Baldwin, 63, was spotted Tuesday on the set of "97 Minutes" in Hampshire, England.The upcoming film is the actor's first project since the "Rust" shooting that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead and director Joel Souza wounded.

A New Mexico State senator on Monday introduced legislation that would require actors and other crew members to take a gun-safety course offered by the New Mexico Game and Fish Department, a move that comes just more than three months after the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the Santa Fe set of Rust.

Alec Baldwin has settled a lawsuit with the man who accused the actor of punching him following an argument over a New York City parking spot. Wojciech Cieszkowski and Baldwin have been locked in a court battle since 2019, after the "Saturday Night Live" star allegedly punched Cieszkowski in the face and pushed him.  Ciezkowski had allegedly taken a parking spot that Baldwin had been waiting for outside his NYC apartment. Alec said he "lightly pushed" him and insisted that surveillance video would back his claim.The 3-year-old case is now behind the men.

Martinez is seeking appointment “solely for the purpose of investigating and pursuing a lawsuit under the New Mexico Wrongful Death Act in the courts of New Mexico,” the filing states.Hutchins was preparing for a scene in a church building at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, near Santa Fe, when actor Alec Baldwin fired a Colt .45, killing her and injuring the film’s director.

The police investigation into Alec Baldwin’s fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust last fall is ongoing, but the family of the cinematographer is moving closer to a big move of its own.

In paperwork filed Monday night in a Los Angeles Superior Court, attorneys for Alec Baldwin sought to have the lawsuit filed against him and other producers on the film, by “Rust” script supervisor Mamie Mitchell, dismissed.The attorneys, at the law firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP which represent “Rust” producers in this case, argue that because the “Rust” shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on Oct. 21 happened in New Mexico, the matter falls under that state’s laws.
