A woman was left in disbelief when she compared Aldi's notoriously cheap food with ASDA's budget essentials range. ASDA snatched the headlines earlier this month when it released its new Just Essentials range.
The range, which can easily be spotted by its flourescent yellow packaging has already divided shoppers. Some have praised the line, while others have accused it of 'poverty shaming'.
It seems that the budget line is not a new phenomenon however, with Waitrose and Morrisons also having their own budget brands. The likes of Lidl and Aldi have always offered affordable or discounted prices for their goods for many years.

With that in mind, Branwen Jones, a reporter at our sister site Wales Online decided to look at how the cost of 15 items would compare between Asda’s new Essentials range and the regular items at Aldi, to see which works out cheaper.
Here's what she had to say:
£14.97
With an Asda Essentials shop of 15 items, you could save around £4 - allowing for some different sizes of packs. In the Asda budget range, their muesli cereal, bread, cheese, tomatoes, macaroni cheese ready meal and instant coffee were far cheaper than Aldi's range.
That being said, a few items were either the same prices or cheaper at Aldi, with the pizza and packet of ham being cheaper, however with the latter, the portion sizes were different. The total cost of the Asda shop came to nearly £15 with £14.97, while the one at Asda was just over £18 with £18.43.
There is no doubt that Asda Essentials has one in this contents, and with 293 products in the budget line, including fresh meat, fish and poultry, bakery, frozen, cupboard staples and household

Sloclap’s 2022 action game Sifu is receiving an update later in August that will add modifiers, a scoring system and two new outfits to the game.A new trailer for the update gives us a look at the additions, with the free update releasing August 31. Some of these modifiers include changing the character’s health, a toggle for infinite structure (with structure dictating how many attacks can be blocked), the ability to turn off guarding, lowering the gravity, and weakening enemies.Essentially, it allows players to granularly change Sifu’s difficulty and settings in specific ways, as opposed to the previous difficulty update which added broader easier and harder options to the game.Meanwhile, the scoring system gives the game “deep and accurate new scoring mechanics”, as well as “improved dynamic multipliers” and high scores for each level. The outfit Enforce Armour is a Deluxe Edition exclusive, while Master Hand is available for all versions.
A reviews writer said she felt insulted after trying out the Waitrose Essentials range for her weekly food shop. With budget supermarket ranges hitting the headlines this week as Asda launch their new 'Just Essentials' range, she decided to try out the budget range at Waitrose, a supermarket which is not usually a go-to for cheap options.
Aldi Specialbuy beauty products really are the gifts that keep on giving. First, the bargain supermarket treated us to £3.99 “dupes” of luxe candles inspired by designer scents like Bronze Goddess and Olympéa, then we were handed a £6 alternative to Bobbi Brown’s sell-out Face Base Primer. Now, we’re being offered an LED mask for a fraction of the price of most other similar styles on the market.

Every supermarket has its own brand budget range to help families save money during their weekly shop. With the 2022 cost of living crisis in full swing, it’s hard to imagine how people would cope without value brands.
