Joe Otterson TV ReporterSophie Turner has joined the cast of the HBO Max series “The Staircase.”Turner joins previously announced cast members Colin Firth, Toni Collette, Parker Posey, Juliette Binoche, and Rosemarie DeWitt.The eight-episode series is based on the docuseries of the same name as well as various books and reports about the case of Michael Peterson (Firth), who was accused of murdering his wife, Kathleen (Collette), in 2001.

The Diaz siblings cross paths with seemingly unrelated residents during some of the most heightened days of the year –the holidays.

Joe Otterson TV ReporterThe CW has given out series orders to the DC project “Naomi” and “All American: Homecoming,” a spinoff of the high school football drama “All American.”In addition, the network has decided to rework its pilot for “Powerpuff,” a live-action followup to the animated series “The Powerpuff Girls.” The show’s four leads — Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, Yana Perrault, and Donald Faison — remain attached to the project, as does the creative team behind the show.

Joe Otterson TV ReporterJeremy Allen White has been cast in the lead role of the FX comedy pilot “The Bear,” Variety has learned.In addition, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Abby Elliott, and Matty Matheson have also been cast in the project, which was ordered to pilot at FX back in March.“The Bear” is about a young chef (White) who returns to Chicago to run the family restaurant. Christopher Storer is the writer and director of the pilot.

Deadline Contenders, a day filled with a star-studded lineup of creatives behind almost 50 Emmy-caliber shows, has teamed with Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, nonprofit St. Joseph Center, ABC and Disney Television Studios to donate 400 meals to those living in shelters and interim housing sites in Los Angeles.

The series stars Jeff Garlin, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia, Sam Lerner and Patton Oswalt (as the narrator).

Joe Otterson TV Reporter“Black-ish” has been renewed for Season 8 at ABC, which will also be the show’s last.The announcement was made by series creator Kenya Barris on Friday. “To ALL the people in the world I love, honor, respect and care for it is both exciting and bittersweet to share that black-ish been RENEWED by ABC for it’s EIGHTH… and FINAL SEASON,” Barris wrote in part on Instagram.

ABC has started making calls on pilots that are not getting picked up to series. I hear the producers and cast of comedy Adopted have been notified that the network has passed on the project. There will be a lot more news on series pickups and pilot passes tomorrow.
