My guest this week is Kerry Condon.
During this special episode recorded for an article in our AwardsLine magazine called On My Screen, The Oscar-nominated star of The Banshees of Inisherin recalls some of her career highlights, and the best advice she’s ever been given. Plus, she gets into the films that make her cry and why acting life isn’t all Brad Pitt all the time…
In Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin, Condon plays Siobhán, sister to Colin Farrell’s Padraic. As Padraic endures a sudden rejection from his best friend Colm (Brendan Gleeson), Siobhán despairs of her remote village life. As she gently lets down her admirer Dominic (Barry Keoghan) and declares of men, “You’re all feckin’ boring,” Siobhán becomes both the voice of reason and the story’s mother of reinvention.
During this chat, Condon also reveals an anecdote about Marlon Brando that she got on good authority from Nick Nolte, why being prepared to make a fool of yourself is a cornerstone of acting and how she became a published film critic at the age of 10.

“Turning Red” that the filmmakers are most proud of is the movie’s depiction of Toronto’s Chinatown. Not a Chinatown full of offensive cliches or dangerous stereotypes, but the type of Chinatown that feels real and lived in and true to its real-world counterpart.

BreAnna Bell The cast of Hulu’s latest dramedy “Unprisoned” kept the family spirit alive at the show’s premiere at the Hollywood Legion Theater on Thursday night. The show’s cast and crew — including Kerry Washington, Delroy Lindo, Faly Rakotohavana, Marque Richardson, Jee Young Han, Jordyn McIntosh, showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser and creator Tracy McMillan — examined what it means to be a “traditional” family on the red carpet before a screening of the first two episodes. Carole Horst Kerry Condon earned her first Oscar nomination for Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin,” in which she plays Siobhán, the complex sister of Colin Farrell’s simple Pádraic. Condon has worked with McDonagh for two decades; her first major role was in his play “The Lieutenant of Inishmore,” and in 2009, she starred in his drama “The Cripple of Inishmaan.” She also appeared in his film “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” which won Academy Awards for Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell. The actor, who hails from Thurles, Tipperary, Ireland, also shared that she shaved her head twice for McDonagh — once for “The Lieutenant of Inishmore” in London and four years later for the play’s New York premiere.
When Kerry Condon heard her Oscar nomination announced in the early hours of the morning in LA, she was clustered around the television with a group that included her Banshees of Inisherin co-star Colin Farrell. “I remember thinking, ‘Oh Jesus, hang on though. What if it’s bad for one of us?’” Condon says. Fortunately, neither actor was left out in the cold. Making Banshees was a chance for the actress to reunite with writer-director Martin McDonagh, in whose plays and the film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri she had already starred. The Banshees character of Siobhán lets Condon show us her chops — from a scene in which she gently lets down the amorous but tortured young Dominic (Barry Keoghan), to telling Brendan Gleeson’s bull-headed Colm (and men in general), “You’re all feckin’ boring!” Here, Condon reflects on her career thus far and some of her onscreen favorites.
