‘1923’: Paramount+ Drops Official Trailer For ‘Yellowstone’ Origin Story

“Violence has always haunted this family,” Elsa Dutton (Isabel May), from “1883,” says at the beginning of “1923,” the new “Yellowstone” spin-off from creator/writer Taylor Sheridan, a familiar if still watchable show thanks to its cast. “Where [violence] doesn’t follow, we hunt it down, we seek it,” she adds for good measure.

Paramount+ has dropped a new trailer for season 2 of Mayor of Kingstown, which will debut on Sunday, January 15. Starring Jeremy Renner and Dianne Wiest, the series will premiere the following day in the U.K. and Australia.

With The Bad Guys, director Pierre Perifel found the perfect opportunity to blend together all of his childhood inspirations for a family-friendly animated heist film. Based on a children’s graphic novel series, the film follows a group of animal criminals, Mr. Wolf (Sam Rockwell), Mr. Snake (Marc Maron), Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina), Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson) and Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos). After getting caught, Mr. Wolf makes a play to escape prison time by claiming that the group wants a chance to reform themselves into good guys. Though it starts as a ruse, Mr. Wolf soon finds himself excited by the opportunity to become a good guy. While the book series begins with the group having already decided to be good guys, Perifel wanted the film to be an origin story of how they came to that choice.

From “Old Yeller” to “Marley & Me” to “Dog,” movies charting the relationship between man and man’s best friend are sure to bring the waterworks, and Netflix has already lined up the 2023 book adaptation that will have you grabbing your tissues. The trailer for “Dog Gone,” starring Rob Lowe and adapted from Pauls Toutonghi’s 2016 book of the same name, just dropped. “Dog Gone” is the true story of John Marshall (Rob Lowe) as he embarks on the Appalachian Trail to find Gonker, the four-legged best friend to his son Fielding (Johnny Berchtold).

The premiere of 1923, the much-anticipated Yellowstone prequel, took place at the Hollywood American Legion Post 43 last night. Helen Mirren, Harrison Ford, Aminah Nieves, Sebastian Roché and Marley Shelton were some of the stars that spoke to Deadline on the red carpet teasing their characters on the Paramount+ series.

Pierre Choderolas de Laclos’ 1782 epistolary novel “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” has proven to be incredibly malleable over the last few decades. In addition to the 1988, Stephen Frears-directed Christopher Hampton adapted “Dangerous Liaisons,” we’ve gotten the stately “Valmont” and even the glorious camp of “Cruel Intentions.” Needless to say, the world was perhaps not clamoring for another look into the backstabbing lives of the Marquise de Merteuil and her sometimes lover/enemy, Valmont.

After the success of “Yellowstone” and “1883,” Taylor Sheridan’s empire keeps growing (not to mention there are crime shows, “The Mayor Of Kingstown” and “The Tulsa King”). Next up for Sheridan is yet another “Yellowstone” spin-off, another Dutton family origin story with some huge names attached.

After providing a brief look at Nicolas Winding Refn’s upcoming six-episode series Copenhagen Cowboy in September, Netflix today has dropped the first full official trailer (check it out above). The streamer has also set the global launch for January 5, 2023.

On paper, “Yellowstone” shares quite a bit of DNA with series such as “Succession,” “House of the Dragon,” and other high-profile dramas about legacy and inter-family turmoil. However, unlike those other two shows, “Yellowstone” features cowboys and is set in Montana, which has led many to dub it a “red-state” show aimed at Conservative viewers.
